The Statistics. 44 dogs entered in the events. 23 Scotties and 21 Westies. Those Wheatens make it hard to count the numbers visually!. Thanks to Liz for entering 8 Scotties. What a team! Some Golden Oldies also enjoyed a more leisurely day so all up about 50 Terriers and one Jack Russell! Well over 100 Humans enjoyed the gorgeous weather. One person travelled from Western Australia to attend, but a little girl had travelled from Singapore to (do a few other things and) enjoy the day.

My family and I arrived around 10:45am and the entries were well in progress in getting registered in for the day's events that were about to commence. There was plenty of West Highland White Terriers to be seen and a good number of Scottish Terriers to give them competition. Nicholas and Kayley, my family, were given a wheaten scotty each for the day's events. Nicholas had Honey and Kayley had Summer. They were registered and ready for the first event! So exciting to be around the Scots again and listening to the barking, they were just as eager to be seen! The first event was the 'The Maze'. Kayley drew a lower number so she and Summer were first. With a little help, they both made it through.. Nicholas and Honey's time was a little better. They all had fun so the times didn't matter much over all. Watching some of the other's go through, we thought we didn't do too bad either way. With the day being so gorgeous outside, the next 2 events were out on the grass. The second event was the 'Biscuit in the spoon' race. Watching it from under the canopy, we were able to see this event more clearly. I loved it! Everyone was having fun, even the dogs who were in the race. (waiting to see the biscuits fall so they could have an early snack).. There were a few 'heat races' as there were a lot of dogs. The 'open' race where all entries were entered. Then there was the 'junior' race where the younger 'handlers' raced with their dogs. Again, we didn't come in the top 3 or 4, but in our books, they were winners non the less. Watching the smiles from everyone around, everyone was winners. The third event was the 'Dunking Dogs'.. I thought this event was my favourites because the dogs got to enjoy the rewards of being in the race. As there was only 4 bowls, only 4 entrants could race at a time. Nicholas was in the first heat and came first! Kayley was in the next heat and she also came first! What fun we had in watching them. Both dogs were busy chomping away on their little 'dogs' and didn't have a care on their times. After all the heats were done with it was time for lunch. YUM! The members' did a wonderful job in creating a delicious variety of foods to choose from. After the meal was over and the desserts consumed, it was time for the final events to commence. There was the 'Fancy dressed', 'Best tricks', 'Oldest', 'Youngest', and 'Blackest and Whitest'. After all the events were done, then it was time for the winners of all the events to be announced. Kayley and Summer got 1st in the 'Dunking Dogs'!! How excited she was and how proud we were watching her face light up. The raffle was the last event. I was one of the ones who was fortunate to have my number be called. There was quite a few prizes and so the raffle went on until the last prize was won. It wasn't long after that then it was time for us to bid an end to our day as we needed to leave. But what impressed me, was even though the Westies outnumbered the Scotties, it was the Scotties who won the over all events! I think the rivalry will continue on in future events. Should be interesting, aye? See ya at the next events.. Cyndi' Cyndi Shirley, new member
